TYPE OF LUBRICANT
Most of the lubricating oil otomotof consist of materials and various kinds of additives.
Some of them are made from synthetic materials.
This chapter describes the types of lubricants as follows:
.Engine Oil
.Oil gears
.Fat
.Fluid
.LLC (Long Life Coolant)
.Sealant
INSTRUCTIONS:
Classified into the oil and fluid based on the intended use.
Oil: The ultimate goal is to lubricate.
Fluid: The ultimate goal is to operate a part-part construction using oil pressure system.
Engine oil to lubricate a wide range of part-part inside the machine.
Engine oil has four main functions as follows:
.Lubricate
.Cool
.Clean up
.Placard
Classification methods that show the characteristics of the engine oil is as follows:
SAE
(Society of Automotive Engineers) are classified based on the viscosity of engine oil.
API / ILSAC
(American Petroleum Institute / International Lubricant Standardization and ApprovalCommittee) are classified based on the use of engine oil quality.
ACEA
(Association des Constructeurs Europ-ens de l'Automobile)
This is a standard engine oil which was passed by the European Petroleum Association.
Classification based on the index SAE oil viscosity:
This index shows where the ambient temperature of a particular oil can be used.
(For example: "10W-30")
The larger the number, the higher viscosity oil.
Oil with a viscosity index showed ranges such as SAE 10W-30 oil is called"multi-grade".
The lower the number, like "10," the less likely the oil to harden at low temperatures. The higher the second number, such as "30," the less likely the oil becomes thinnerat higher temperatures.
"W" means winter ("winter"), indicating that this is for the application of viscosity at low temperatures.
Classification based on the quality
API oil quality classification:
Shows the limit driving conditions where oil can help it. For gasoline engines, oil is classified based on the level of SA to SL, although the SE or higher level is used on the vehicle. Level SL is the most high-quality oil .* For diesel engines, oil is classified based on the level of CA to CF-4, with the CF-4 as the highest-quality oil.*
* Starting in March 2002
ILSAC oil quality classification:
Oil-This oil has passed the test fuel consumption by ILSAC and API standards.
Oil-oil are classified into levels of GF-1 and GF-2 in accordance with the performance of the fuel savings. GF-2 is the highest level.
Gear oil has a viscosity index and high quality to withstand the high pressuregenerated by linkage gears.
Oil gears are divided according to usage, eg for the transmission, differential, or the use of manual steering.
Like engine oil, gear oil is also classified according to the viscosity (SAEclassification) and test quality (API classification).
SAE Viscosity Classification
Gear oil is classified into the 75W, 80W, 85W, 90, and so on with the viscosity index. The bigger the number, the higher its viscosity. Gear oil is actually used on the vehicleis 75W-90 and 80W-90.
The quality classification API
Gear oils are classified by prisoners of extreme pressure, in accordance with the requirements of the type of gear is different.
USAGE
GL-5
Hypoid gear oil is superior in withstand extreme pressure. This oil can properlysupport the weight of great influence and shift speed.
GL-4
Used at high speed conditions bermomen low, high or low speed bermomen, which is more demanding than for GL-3.
GL-3
Used on transmissions and steering gears, differential gears and spiral elbow.
